Frequently Asked Questions

How quickly will I receive the cash for my property?

On the day the sale is completed you will receive the money directly into your chosen bank account.

Once you’ve contacted us the average time to completion can be just under two weeks, but we can work to almost any timescale you request.

What type of properties do you buy?

We buy any property in England and Wales – anything from a studio flat, right through to a large detached house and anything in between. We also buy commercial property.

The condition of the property doesn’t matter. In the past we have bought properties that have been fire damaged, require modernisation or left in a bad state of repair by tenants or flats which have short leases.

Do you charge any fees or costs?

There are no fees or costs to pay when you sell through Reader’s Digest Property. We cover all valuation and solicitor fees and you won’t have any estate agent fees. This means there will be no surprise bills when the sale completes.

Who deals with the paperwork?

We take care of as much of the paperwork as possible. We will instruct a solicitor or your behalf (unless you choose to use your own) and they will deal with a lot of the paperwork.

As the seller there are a few bits of paperwork you will be required to do – should as signing the contract and replying to some basic enquiries about the property. Everything else is taken care of by your solicitor and us.

Is your service confidential?

In comparison to selling through a traditional estate agent the whole process is confidential. There will be no for-sale boards and no local advertising. Apart from your solicitor and the local surveyor no-one else is going to know the property is changing hands until it has been completed.

Can I use my own solicitor?

Yes, of course – as long as your solicitor is happy to act within the timescale you require then we will cover the cost of using them.

If you would prefer to use a solicitor recommended by us then we can provide you with the names of two or three for you to choose from who we know will be able to work quickly and efficiently on your behalf.

Are you a member of any professional body?

Reader’s Digest Property is a partnership between Reader’s Digest and House Buy Fast – an expert property buying company. House Buy Fast is a member of The Property Ombudsman Scheme. This is a government approved scheme to provide independent redress in relation to disputes between consumers and property agents.

They are also a founder member of The National Association of Property Buyers (NAPB) – a group of professional property buyers committed to providing the highest possible standards in the property buying sector.

Can I deal with the same person throughout the sale?

Yes. Our staff are all long-term property professionals who know the importance of good customer service. Throughout the sale you will be dealing with the same person – from the initial call, right through to completion of the property sale.

What do you do with the property after you buy it?

After purchasing your property we will look to sell it. Sometimes we carry out refurbishment works first.

What if my situation changes and I don’t need to sell?

Selling through Reader’s Digest Property is no risk, with no fees payable. So, if you do need to pull out of the transaction before exchange of contracts, that’s fine. There will be no charge to you in doing so and we will cover the cost of your solicitors.
